What is Autism?
Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain. It impacts development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. Both children and adults with autism typically show difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities.

What is The Autism Puzzle Project?
The Autism Puzzle Project is an initiative started by Connections Jigsaw Puzzles for Healing. We are actively seeking art by Autistic individuals that we will use to create a line of jigsaw puzzles. These jigsaw puzzles will then be used to raise awareness of Autism, to raise funds for families and individuals dealing with Autism, and to create a way for Autistic artists to gain exposure, confidence and financial independence.
Why jigsaw puzzles?
Autism is considered a puzzling and complex condition, much like the uncompleted jigsaw puzzle, hence, the symbol for Autism is a jigsaw puzzle. What better way to conquer the complexity than by proactively "Putting the Pieces Together", both literally and figuratively with meaningful jigsaw puzzles featuring art by Autistic adults and children!
Who can participate in The Autism Puzzle Project?
Only art by individuals living with Autism will be considered for inclusion in The Autism Puzzle Project, however, everyone can participate by spreading the word.
If you are Autistic or have a family member who is Autistic, please visit our Art Submission Form to submit art for consideration for The Autism Puzzle Project.
If you want to spread the word about this great project and help us connect with Autistic Artists, please recommend our site to a friend and let them know about The Autism Puzzle Project and that we're looking for Autistic Artists now.
What type of art will be considered?
Connections Jigsaw Puzzles for Healing is a unique company specializing in jigsaw puzzles that provide positive and healing images for focus. As a part of The Autism Puzzle Project, we are specifically looking for art that embodies positivity, hope and connectedness and art that encorporates symbolism of Autism as well. You don't have to be an "artist" to submit art! Send us what you've got and you might just see it on a jigsaw puzzle!
Will I receive my art back if I submit it in the mail?
Due to the risk of loss or damage to art if submitting by mail, we ask that you please send copies, NOT original art pieces, if submitting art by mail. Because of the volume of art received for The Autism Puzzle Project, it's not possible for us to return received art pieces.
Will I retain my copyright?
Yes. Each piece that is selected for use on a jigsaw puzzle will be licensed for use by Connections, Jigsaw Puzzles for Healing, with the Artist retaining full copyright of the image and ability to use the image for anything other than jigsaw puzzles.
If my art is chosen, will people know that it's my art being used?
Yes. The artist name for each puzzle is listed:
1. On the front and one side of each puzzle box
2. On all printed catalogs
3. On the website with the respective puzzle
Additionally, jigsaw puzzle artists working with Connections Jigsaw Puzzles for Healing have a "Bio" page on our website with information and a link to their personal website should they wish.
How long will it take for me to hear if my art will be chosen?
We try to respond to all art submissions within 2 weeks of receipt. Due to the volume of requests, this may not be possible. If you don't hear from us within two weeks, please feel free to follow up with us via email and we'll do our best to keep you informed.
Where will The Autism Puzzle Project jigsaw puzzles be available?
Jigsaw Puzzles that are created as a part of The Autism Puzzle Project will be available via several avenues:
1. All will be available retail via the Connections Jigsaw Puzzles for Healing website.
2. All will be made a part of the complete offering of puzzles to wholesalers across the United States and internationally and so may be picked up by any number of retail stores carrying our puzzles (a great way to get exposure and raise awareness)
3. A specific effort will be made to make all jigsaw puzzles resulting from The Autism Puzzle Project available for fundraising and awareness raising events for Autism throughout the world.
