Jigsaw Puzzles as Effective Tools for Meditation

There are a myriad of different techniques for meditating. Concentrating on the breath is one. Meditating and chanting a mantra is another. What will work for you will depend on your personality type and how much time you have to dedicate to the practice.
For me, I used to find meditation very difficult. I need to feel like I'm "doing" something and since meditation is effectively learning to do "nothing", my ego tends to resist very strongly. I'm constantly feeling like I should get up and do the laundry, or make that phone call, or do all the things on that endless list of things to do, that keep us from reconnecting with ourselves... really the most important thing.
So for me, using jigsaw puzzles as meditational tools has been incredibly useful. The piecing together of the jigsaw puzzle itself "tricks" my ego into thinking I'm "doing" something, so the resistance to the process is eliminated. And even better, working the jigsaw puzzle itself actually helps to create an alpha state of meditation! Because piecing together a jigsaw puzzle requires the simultaneous use of both sides of the brain, an alpha state of meditation is naturally achieved. (left brain - analytical, sees all the little pieces and tries to piece it together logically and right brain - intuitive, sees the big picture).
The concept behind Connections, Jigsaw Puzzles for Healing is to take this fun tool for meditation and combine it with the power of positive visualization. By working jigsaw puzzles featuring images that have a positive meaning, we not only achieve a state of meditation, but focus on and benefit from powerfully positive images while in this very receptive state.

And also beneficial is the metaphor of the jigsaw puzzle. Often times, the confusion of our lives with so much going on and no clear starting point can feel similar to that feeling of first opening up the box of a jigsaw puzzle. We can feel very overwhelmed and disconnected. The REAL power comes from taking that first step, placing that first piece. Making the decision to proactively put the pieces together.
In using jigsaw puzzles as meditational tools, we're also training our minds and our subconscious to focus on the SOLUTION, not the problem. Instead of just looking at all those pieces, we start putting them together. Moving forward, creating. This is, after all, why we're here.
