The Seven Major Chakras

Chakras are energy centers found throughout the body responsible for the
condition of the body, mind and spirit.

Chakra is sanskrit for "wheel". We receive and give our energy through the chakras. Therefore, it is important that each chakra is balanced, clear and functioning properly, or the energy we receive and give through them will be imbalanced. Each chakra is associated to specific things (organs, a color, certain emotions, etc.) By learning about the chakras and what they are associated to, we can better determine areas in our own lives that may need more balanced focus. Below is a brief breakdown of each chakra.


		The First Chakra or Root Chakra This chakra is located at the base of the spine. It is called the Muladhara in sanskrit (mula - root and adhara - support) Color: Red/Black Element: Earth Sense: Smell Organs: The skeletal system, Lymph system, the prostate gland in men, the sacral plexus, the bladder and elimination system, and the lower extremities (legs - feet, ankles, etc.) and the nose Governs: Vigor, heredity, survival, security, passion and trust. Associated to your relationship with money, home, job and mother earth. Note: C Mantra: lam Essential Oils: Frankincense and Rosewood Gemstones: black and red stones including Garnet, Smoky Quartz, Obsidian, Black Tourmaline, Hematite Signs of imbalance: Terror, or a threat to survival, insecurity and tension indicate disturbances in the root chakra

		The Second Chakra or Base Chakra This chakra is located in the center of the abdomen, near the navel. It is called the Svadisthana in sanskrit (sva - one's own base) Color: Orange / Brown Element: Water Sense: Taste Organs: The sexual organs, reproductive system, lumbar plexus Governs: sexuality, creativity, emotions, anger, fear instinct to nurture, spleen, perceptions concerning food or sex. Note: D Mantra: vam Essential Oils: Rose, Jasmine, Sandalwood Gemstones: Carnelian, Tiger eye, Fire Opal Signs of imbalance: Issues with food or sex indicate disturbance in the base chakra

		The Third Chakra or Solar Plexus This chakra is located between the sternum bone and the belly. It is called the power center or Chakra Manipura in sanskrit (city = pur of jewels = mani) Color: Yellow Element: Fire Sense: Sight Organs: The muscular system, solar plexus, the skin as a system, large intestine, liver, stomach, eyes and face Governs: Power, accomplishments, will, ego projections, vital energies, control, and your freedom to be yourself Note: D Mantra: ram or aum Essential Oils: Cassia, Peppermint Gemstones: Citrine, Amber, Golden Topaz Signs of imbalance: Issues with perceived control or freedom indicate disturbance in the solar plexus

		The Fourth Chakra or Heart Chakra This chakra is located at your heart center. It is called the Anahatha Chakra in sanskrit (anahata - unstruck) Color: Green Element: Air Sense: Touch Organs:The heart and the blood, the circulatory system, cardiac plexus, lungs and chest area Governs: Love, compassion, mediates between higher and lower planes of being healing, lungs breath prana, sense of time, and the area of relationships in your life Note: F Mantra: yam Essential Oils: Jasmine, Rose Gemstones: Aventurine, Emerald , Rose quartz, Dioptaise, Kunzite Signs of imbalance: Issues with your immune system and feelings of love indicate a possible imbalance in this chakra

		The Fifth Chakra or Throat Chakra This chakra is located at the base of the throat. It is called the Visuddha Chakra in sanskrit (vishuddi = purity) Color: Blue Element: Ether/Angelic Realms Sense: Hearing Organs: Throat, neck, arms and the hands Governs: Speech, hearing, communication, self expression, intuition and fulfillment of one's goals Note: G Mantra: ham Essential Oils: Chamomile, Frankincense Gemstones: Turquoise, Aquamarine, Chryoscolla, Azurite, Sodalite Signs of imbalance: Issues with communication, expressing oneself and realizing goals could indicate an imbalance with this chakra

		The Sixth Chakra or Third Eye This chakra is located in the center of the forehead, above the eyes. It is called the Ajna Chakra in sanskrit (ajna = knowing) Color: Indigo Element: Spiritual Vision Sense: Telepathy Organs: Forehead, temples and the carotid plexus Governs: Intuition, thought, inner and outer sight, visions, dreams Note: high A Mantra: ohm or aum or mmm Essential Oils: Basil , Cedarwood, Clary Sage Gemstones: Lapis, Lazuli, Blue Sapphire, Sodalite, Selinite, Kyanite, Azurite, Sugulite and Fluorite Signs of imbalance: Issues with unity vs. seperation might indicate an imbalance with this chakra

		The Seventh Chakra or Crown Chakra This chakra is located on the top of your head. It is called the Sahasrara Chakra in sanskrit Color: Violet Element: Cosmic Sense: Spirit Organs: Top of the head, brain and the whole of the nervous system Governs: Connection to cosmic consciousness, spirituality, wisdom aspirations and knowledge of truth Mantra: ohm or aum or mmm Essential Oils: Lavender, Rosewood Gemstones: Clear and Rutile Quartz, Amethyst, Iolite, Sugulite, Tanzanite

Each individual chakra must be clear and functioning properly in order for balanced health.
